Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) empowers people to change the way they think to work towards a sustainable future (UNESCO). ESD is about empowering learners to make decisions, and take action in their lives to promote a just society. Where responsibility is taken for climate change issues and the environment, for sustainable consumption and production, and encouraging and moving towards a greener economy and society. As well as the environmental issues and engaging learners to be ‘informed global citizens’, ESD is about tolerance, empathy, inclusion and creating a fairer world. ESD is not just about passing on information and statistics - it is about engaging learners to think creatively, think critically, and work collaboratively for the greater good. Introducing this to children and young people and helping them to understand their responsibility to the present and future generations is an essential part of education. ESD can facilitate a learner centred pedagogy. It is about changing behaviours and ways of thinking.

To capture children's attention and promote themes related to sustainable development and global citizenship, we will be releasing beautifully illustrated books that each focus on a specific issue. Our first children's book highlights the impact of plastic in the oceans and the effect it has on sea creatures. Book to attend our Cardiff launch here:

Our launch of Rambo and the Perils of Plastic at the University of South Wales was a resounding success. Along with our flagship childen's book, our Nature Notes and My Beautifil Planet journals were popular, and educators took an interest in our textbook for teaching ESDGC. We look forward to holding more events and readings.
